welcome friends it's Sunday morning sowe're going to do another one of our
post Depression pre-world War tworecipes from my favorite recipe
published by the Stayner Sun and todayI'm a little bit excited because the
recipe we're going to do is for dadscookies now I don't know if these
cookies are the dad's cookies but I dolove dads oatmeal cookies and the
spicing and everything here seemspromising so I'm gonna start out by
creaming some butter butter is softenedso in goes the sugar
next in our the eggs I've have a lot ofpeople ask me in the comments why I
cream the butter first and then add thesugar instead of creaming the butter and
sugar together at the start and I wastaught to do it that way and I've tried
it both ways and you know I don't thinkit really makes any difference always
sort of comes out the sameso we'll beat these eggs in next in is
some corn syrup next in is some coconut
okay looking good so I'm gonna switch toa wooden spoon for the next bit okay
I'm not a fan of coconut and I canreally taste the coconut in there I'm
hoping that this next bit sort of breaksthat coconut flavor away so I have flour
and into the flour goes cinnamon gingerallspice and baking soda and I'm just
going to stir that together okay now wealternate between the flour and some
oats into the butter mixture a littlebit at a time and I'm going to use a
wooden spoon to mix that in and now someoats and these are large flake rolled
oats so that I just put through the foodprocessor to break them down a little
bit okay the instructions say to rollinto small balls and bake in a quick
oven so the oven is preheated to 375 andI'm just going to make up these tiny
little balls with this scoopand we'll see what happens now it
doesn't say anything about flatteningthese cookies but there's something in
me that just wants to squish them down alittle bit I don't know what it is this
could be completely wrong maybe I'massuming things but I just feel like a
little bit of a squish with my fingersis what I need to do now into the oven
hey Glenn which one of these recipes didyou make not the ones with exes I did
make one with I'd made this one dadscookies the one with an X there's necks
but I gesture that it's not good and Ilove dads cookies so I'm worried about
the X and I'm worried about the coconutI know I know but you never taste it and
dad's cooking no mind you it could justbe that it doesn't taste enough like
that style it's crispy it is crispy itscrumblies it's a Duncan cookie mm-hmm
just like dads no it's caramel II inflavors the dads cookies I like it but I
really like coconut I don't like to cookit I don't think it I don't think it's
uh I think the coconuts overpowering tome I'm not sure it is flavored much like
a dad's cookies but that is okay becausethere's two things here one mm-hmm
in 1930 dad's cookies may have tastedifferently could have been completely
differentcould have been couple I do like the
spicing though I like the spicing in itI would cut back to coconut my first
impression but that's just me that isjust me but I think the texture is
bang-on for what a dad's cookie is Ithink it's probably more blended you
think yeah like I did put the whole oatsthrough the through the processor okay
to break them up a little bit thosewe've amorphous and it and it could have
been maybe a little bit finer that'sokay I like them no good cookies they
are good this these are great with a cupof tea yeah dunk them in um still get
that cookie slugs at the bottom yeah itdidn't say to flatten them but I think
flattening them actually worked outpretty well
still a little bit of a dome on themoverall I'd say these are thumbs up even
with the coconut thanks for stopping bysee you again soon
you
